Capturing Video From DVD Using MPEG Streamclip

Hook up external drive and start up computer

 

CAPTURING VIDEO FROM DVD USING MPEG STREAMCLIP

 

1.Insert PAL DVD into computer

 

2.Quit DVD player if it starts up

 

3. Start up MPEG streamclip

 

a. Go to File > Open Files

 

b. within DV VIDEO_TS, select All FIles, then shift select all the VTS files and click Open

 

c. you can preview the video / audio by clicking on the playbar

 

d. go to File > Export to DV  - use the following settings, then click Make DV

IMPORT THE DV INTO FINAL CUT PRO

 

1. Start up FCP.  Create a standard DV project.  Be sure your sequence is NTSC DV

 

2. Import the .dv format file you just exported from MPEG Streamclip

 

3. Drag the clip into the timeline

 

3. Render by selecting the clip and going to Sequence > Render All >Both

 

4. Once the clip is rendered, save your project in the same directory as your other files for this conversion

 

5. Add fade in out transitions by right clicking on each end of the clip.  Click and drag your clip to adjust its position in the timeline.  Preview in the canvas.

 

 

EXPORT FROM FINAL CUT PRO INTO COMPRESSOR

 

1. When you are done editing, go to File > Export > Using Compressor

 

2. Compressor will start up and show your sequence title as the item to be compressed

 

3.  You will want to designate 2 settings:

 

a. Destination - just select "Source" and the file will be saved to the same location as the .dv and your Final Cut project file

 

b. Settings - locate "DVD: Best Quality 90 Minutes (if you DVD is longer, select DVD Best Quality 120 Minutes - when be sure and select "ALL" in the

related drop down menu

 

c. select "Submit" and wait for the export to process

 

 

IMPORT COMPRESSOR FILES INTO DVD STUDIO

 

1. Start up DVD Studio Pro

 

2. Select the most advanced view (more options available)

 

3. Import the compressor files (these should have a name that looks like "your FCP sequence name - compression mode"

 

4.  You want to do three things:

 

a. be sure your video and audio is on a track

 

b. be sure that the DVD auto starts playing the track

  

c. be sure that the track loops
